UK Chart: Metro: Last Light surfaces top but fails to outsell predecessor

Dead Island: Riptide falls to second, and FIFA 13 climbs back up to third.

4A Games’ Metro: Last Light has emerged top of the UK charts after its first weekend on sale, although the well-received sequel failed to match the numbers shifted by its predecessor in 2010.

The original Metro 2033 was released in March 2010, and debuted fifth in the UK charts at the time.

Deep Silver purchased the rights to Metro: Last Light in January, and the publisher also notches up a second place finish with open-world zombie mulcher Dead Island: Riptide.

FIFA 13 climbs back up to third place, and 3DS-exclusive Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity enters the chart in fourth.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II is fifth, Tomb Raider sixth, and the retail release of Telltale Games’ serial adventure The Walking Dead is seventh.

The top 10 is rounded out by DC brawler Injustice: Gods Among Us in eighth, which pushed Assassin’s Creed III into ninth by less than 200 sales, and BioShock Infinite in tenth.

Elsewhere in the chart, poorly reviewed movie-tie in Star Trek drops to 32nd from last week’s 24th place finish, and Medal of Honor: Warfighter re-enters the chart at 37th.

The Top 20 UK chart for the week ending May 18:

1. Metro: Last Light
2. Dead Island: Riptide
3. FIFA 13
4. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity

Crysis 3 tops the UK charts, though there’s not much else released this week.

Crysis 3 has topped the UK charts for the second week running.

FIFA 13 overtakes Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance to finish second, while Call of Duty: Black Ops II clings to fourth.

Far Cry 3 and Need for Speed: Most Wanted chart fifth and sixth, with Aliens: Colonial Marines slipping to seventh after suffering a 55 per cent sales drop-off in its second week. Dead Space 3 is at eighth, less than a hundred sales behind Aliens.

Assassin’s Creed III and Hitman Absolution round out the top 10.

There are no new entries in the top 10 this week, but that will likely change next week with the arrival of Square Enix’s Tomb Raider reboot, which received an 8.5 in its GameSpot review.

Xbox Live Activity: Week Commencing January 28 – News

I’ve got some brand new activity charts for you, and I’m sorry to report that the new year hasn’t shaken things up all that much. The day when I get to proclaim to you fine readers that there has been a cataclysmic chart shift, may just be the day brimstone rains on our souls; a mixed day for all involved then.

Anyway, lets look at the charts. Call of Duty: Black Ops II still reigns supreme at the top, and all of the big boys are firmly nestled in there. Minecraft continues to impress and the ‘indie’ title takes number two spot in the overall charts, and the number one spot in the indie chart. The visual feast that is Crysis 3 also makes an appearance, with the open beta sitting pretty at sixteenth.

The complete lists can be found below and as always all information comes from the blog of Microsoft’s very own Major Nelson.

This is an excerpt from the full story which was originally featured on gamrReview, read the full version here – Xbox Live Activity: Week Commencing January 28 – News

UK Chart: Dead Space 3 is first, but sells 26 per cent less than Dead Space 2

EA’s latest horror shooter the biggest launch of the year so far, as Ni no Kuni drops to sixth.

EA’s micro-transaction tinged horror shooter Dead Space 3 has blasted its way to the top of the UK charts, though sales were down 26 per cent compared to its predecessor.

Dead Space 2 launched at a similar period in 2011, though the third game has garnered its fair share of criticism thanks to its choice to include an action-heavy co-op campaign and generous portions of microtransactions.

Chart positions 2 to 5 remained the same, with 2013′s usual suspects filling out the list: FIFA 13, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, Far Cry 3 and Hitman: HD Trilogy.

Last week’s chart winner, Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, saw a 63% drop in sales and landed in sixth place.

The rest of the top 10 is also familiar. Need for Speed: Most Wanted is in seventh, Just Dance 4 eighth, Hitman: Absolution ninth and, thanks to the 3DS release of the game, Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing Transformed finishes tenth.

Elsewhere in the chart, and perhaps buoyed by Super Bowl XLVII, was Madden 13 in 19th place. DmC: Devil May Cry, which sat atop the chart but three weeks ago, slipped to 25th.

This week sees the release of Gearbox’s Aliens: Colonial Marines on Tuesday February 12 – will it be able to knock Dead Space 3 off the top next week?

The Top 20 UK charts for the week ending February 9:

1. Dead Space 3
2. FIFA 13
3. Call of Duty: Black Ops II
4. Far Cry 3
5. Hitman: HD Trilogy
6. Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch
7. Need for Speed: Most Wanted
8. Just Dance 4
9. Hitman: Absolution
10. Sonic and SEGA All-Stars Racing Transformed
11. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
12. Assassin’s Creed 3
13. Halo 4
14. Forza Horizon
15. Skylanders Giants
16. Football Manager 2013
17. LEGO The Lord of the Rings
18. LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes
19. Madden NFL 13
20. Forza Motorsport 4
