Toei urges Joshin Railway to stop using image of beloved anime

As its title suggests, Leiji Matsumoto’s classic manga and anime space opera Galaxy Express 999 featured a railway running through space, offering hope to the desperate, like protagonist Tetsuro Hoshino. In 2008, Joshin Railway got permission from Matsumoto and Toei, and with local donations painted the anime’s beloved characters on a pair of railway cars. Now that agreement is sadly ending. Boat designed by Galaxy Express 999, Yamato creator travels Sumida River

Space opera maestro Leiji Matsumoto is famous for his imagination capturing cool but often impracticable vessels, so it might be surprising that one of his designs is actually travelling Sumida River from Asakusa to Odaiba. In honor of Ozma‘s DVD release, the river boat is running a promotion. Get a look after the jump.
