As we have reported, a Tokyo-based company Imperial Enterprises has released many high-end wristwatches inspired by popular manga/anime series such as One Piece, Dragon Ball Z, Detective Conan, Naruto, and Space Pirate Captain Harlock. Their latest choice is another popular manga work by legendary artist Leiji Matsumoto, Galaxy Express 999. The manga was first serialized in Shonen Gahousha’s Weekly Shonen King from 1977 to 1981, and one 116-episode TV anime series and three anime feature films were produced.
The wristwatch is released to celebrate Matsumoto’s 60 years career as a manga artist since his debut in 1954 when he was 16, and it is supervised by Matsumoto himself. It comes with a replica of the unlimited use pass for the 999 which you can print your own name. The watch has two color editions, silver and black, and both edition are produced only 999 units. The price for both edition is 39,000 yen (about US$390).

The official site for the upcoming CG remake film Captain Harlock posted a new 3 minutes trailer today. The film is based on a classic manga series created by legendary artist Leiji Matsumoto (Galaxy Express 999, Space Battleship Yamato). Instead of Harlock (voiced by Shun Oguri) in the previous trailers, this new one features a new character Yama (Haruma Miura) who is ordered to assassinate Harlock by the government and joins the crew of his starship Arcadia. Captain Harlock hits Japanese theaters on September 7 in 2D and 3D.

Toei urges Joshin Railway to stop using image of beloved anime
As its title suggests, Leiji Matsumoto’s classic manga and anime space opera Galaxy Express 999 featured a railway running through space, offering hope to the desperate, like protagonist Tetsuro Hoshino. In 2008, Joshin Railway got permission from Matsumoto and Toei, and with local donations painted the anime’s beloved characters on a pair of railway cars. Now that agreement is sadly ending. More after the jump.
