Sega games headed to EA’s Origin store

Electronic Arts’ virtual storefront adds new partners Sega, Rebellion, Team 17 Software, Kalypso, and others, bringing total count to 35.

The list of publishing partners for Electronic Arts’ Origin digital storefront is growing. EA announced today that it welcomed a new wave of partners, led by Sega.

Sega’s upcoming Total War: Shogun 2 – Fall of the Samurai is available to preorder through Origin today, but no future titles have been announced for the download service.

In addition, Rebellion, Team 17 Software, Kalypso Media Digital, and unspecified others have signed up to sell their titles through Origin. EA did not name these parties, and as of press time, the publisher had not responded to GameSpot’s request for comment.

Today’s round of additions brings the total number of Origin partners to 35. Downloadable games from the new partners will be available in the coming months, EA said.

In January, Origin added 11 new partners, including Trion Worlds, CD Projekt Red, Inxile Entertainment, and Paradox Interactive. This is on top of previously added marquee publishers Capcom, THQ, and Warner Bros.

Launched during summer 2011, Origin currently boasts 11 million worldwide registered users, a marked increase from the 6 million users EA reported in January.

EA’s Origin download hub adding 11 new publishers

Trion Worlds’ MMO Rift available via EA’s download channel today; CD Projekt Red, Paradox Interactive, inXile Entertainment, and more highlighted as new partners.

Over the summer, Electronic Arts launched a new virtual marketplace called Origin. It first began operation selling only EA-published games, but expanded later to include third-parties like Warner Bros., THQ, and Capcom. Today, EA announced a new wave of nearly a dozen third-party publishing partners.

Leading the group of new publishers on Origin is Trion Worlds, creator of massively multiplayer online role-playing game Rift. That game is available today through Origin, and is the first title from Origin’s 11 new partners to see release through the download hub.

The other 10 new publishing partners for Origin are CD Projekt Red, Freebird Games, Recoil Games, Autumn Games, 1C Company, inXile Entertainment, Paradox Interactive, Core Learning Ltd., and N3V Games.

EA did not specify which games from its new partners will find their way to Origin, but the publisher noted it will roll out games from these new companies “in the coming months.” Origin currently boasts over 6 million users and hosts in excess of 100 titles through its Web marketplace.
